History
The Globe Trading Company building is located in the Rivertown area of Detroit. The structure has a long history with one of the first buildings of the complex built in 1892.  A Wikipedia article on the Dry Dock Complex has more information on the Globe Trading Company and the type of work that was done there.

In the News
The recently signed (between the city and state) consent agreement to manage the city's finances has brought the building back into the news.  In Sunday's Detroit Free Press (4/8/12) an article on the consent agreement said, "the documents call for DNR investment in the dilapidated Globe Trading Co. Building across from William G. Milliken State Park and the Detroit riverfront." Let's hope that this turns out to be true and the building gets funds needed for restoration.

State Park
As a side note, in case you haven't been to the William G. Milliken State Park it is an awesome park run by the Department of Natural Resources.  The park's simply a nice place to take a break and watch the river go by.  If you're ever near downtown, do yourself a favor and check it out.
