Belle Isle Bald Eagle

National Bird

I decided to take a different route on a Sunday drive around Belle Isle, and the new path led to a sighting of a bald eagle! To say the least I was pretty happy. After spotting the eagle and taking a few pictures, he flew on down the road to another tree.

The Video

I slowly drove on and got the video camera ready. I started filming but the eagle decided to take off, so there is only a little bit of footage. It was still one of my best bird sightings in Detroit.

  1. I've heard that there were eagles on Belle Isle, never saw one though. Now I know that I'll have to look although I suspect that once summer comes around, the eagle isn't going to stick around.

    1. I've heard elsewhere that he may just be passing through and not nesting there. I suppose time will tell.

    2. Well I can't imagine that he would stick around, unless he's in one of the parts of the island that isn't well traveled. Eagles tend to be solitary birds and don't like alot of attention. That is one of the reasons why I was very careful not to reveal where I take my eagle pictures by Bay City but the local newspaper took care of that for me. Fortunately, the hub bub died down and they didn't chase the eagles from that spot.

At any rate, it is pretty cool that an eagle is at least hanging around Belle Isle, even if he isn't living there.

  2. I'm sure glad you had your camera on the ready. But I'm not surprised since it's obvious by your posts that DVD always has it handy. Your eye is well trained just like the subject of this post. Thanks for this most intriguing post.

  3. greetings!
Today my wife and I saw three total. Two immature and one adult. It was awesome! We never expected to see them there. I have a feeling they are migrating through....

    Thanks for your work
